New Buildings and Site Improvements for Center Township
Project No. MA-1901
Center Township completed a comprehensive master plan study for its municipal park site and buildings in 2019, which also included study of the public works site on Wilhelm Drive. The study considered many different options for building renovations, new construction, and site improvements.
A team of architects and engineers analyzed the feasibility and costs of renovations vs new building construction and it was determined that due to the age, conditions, and space limitations of the existing municipal building and public works building, that new construction is the best option for the Township.
The public works building is in poor condition and a new building is also planned at that site.
In the interest of security and safety, the new municipal building and new police station will be separate structures. The police, in particular, are presently very undersized within the existing municipal building, and the proposed new police station will provide a state-of-the-industry facility that meets all requirements for function, security and code-compliance.
The new municipal building includes space for the municipal offices, the water and sewer authorities, and a larger community room for meetings and multi-purpose use.
Improvements to the municipal park include an addition for renovated part restrooms and concessions, new park pavilions including one with an indoor dining space and kitchen for resident use, and renovations to the site facilities including upgrades and replacement of deteriorating fencing, pavement, and site lighting. A small water splash-pad is included as a water spray play feature on the site.
Design work on the project is well under way, and the project is scheduled to bid to contractors in January, with construction expected to begin in late winter of 2021, with all work completed by summer of 2022.
